The Vatican City is a place of great importance not only for European, but also for world culture, because it is here that unique works of art await you: architecture, painting and much more! The significant part of these priceless cultural monuments is in local museums, which we will visit.
For example, we will visit the Pio-Clementino Museum, which is located in the Belvedere Palace. It is also famous for the fact that it was founded by Pope Clement XIV and was completed by another Pope – Pius VI. So this museum was named after these two Roman pontiffs. Numerous sculptures made by Roman and Greek masters have found their place in this temple of art.
Moreover, we will visit local art galleries, which will not disappoint us.
We will walk through the Raphael’s Rooms! The walls of these rooms are beautifully decorated – you will be surprised by the frescoes of high artistic value, which depict a variety of subjects of a mythological and religious nature. What is remarkable, and quite logical, is that Rafael Santi himself worked on the decoration of the walls of these rooms, so they were named after him.
Another famous must-see attraction is the Sistine Chapel, the most famous in the entire Vatican! It was erected during the early Renaissance (from 1475 to 1481). And the architect of such a grandiose structure was the famous Giovanni de Dolci. This chapel bears the name of Pope Sixtus IV, during whose reign it was erected.
