Holy assumption Church in the Belarusian town of Braslav was built next to the old town, the Castle hill, in the late 19th century (1897). It is known that before in her place was a Church (16th century) and the Orthodox convent. But the fire in 1859 destroyed all the buildings, and castle mountain acquired close to a modern look.
Then came the first wooden Church. Later this building was moved, and in its place erected a new Holy assumption Church of stone, which today tourists can carefully consider as part of the religious tours in Belarus or excursions.
Braslav Svyato-Uspenskaya Church, a monument of architecture, built in retrospect-Russian style. The building has a pentagonal asps with side sacristy, bunk belfry and the main cubic volume.
The Central entrance in the form of a portal with an arch on columns is located from the side of the bell tower. In a similar style, side entrances and openings of the bell tower. Column-drums and arched window openings divide the facades of the buildings.
When you step inside, the first thing that strikes the eyes of visitors – carved three-tiered iconostasis, built at the end of the last century. In the temple there are unique icons of the 18th – 19th centuries, many of which are brought from the closed Church in the village Druya. Among them: "the Apostles", "assumption", "Screenie", "mother of God with child" and others.
Holy assumption Church is a place to visit if you come to stay at the Braslav lakes. Many tourists who are staying in estates of Belarus, located nearby, often frequented here.
