The Church of the Dormition in Saria

The Church of the Dormition Care – the Gothic revival Church of the mid-19th century. This architectural masterpiece is one of the most expressive monuments of sacral architecture in Belarus. Built of red brick, the temple is popularly called the stone lacework. The Church was originally Catholic, but is now transferred to the Orthodox.

The History Of The Church Of The Dormition

The Church of the Dormition Sare was built in the mid 19th century by Ignatius Lopatinsky, saranski landowner. Gentleman lopatinskiy decided to erect a monument in honor of his beloved wife Mary and their deceased son. So he went to the famous architect Gustav Mine. In 1857 the temple was finally built after a long and difficult process of construction, when even the power was against the Catholic faith. Lopatinsky was consecrated a Church in honour of St. Mary, and near broke a beautiful Park.
In 1865 the Imperial government confiscated the Church and gave it to the Orthodox. In 1935 the Church was closed, and during the second world war was used as a warehouse. In the late 80-ies of the 20th century the building was partially reconstructed, and in the end of the century, Church services were resumed.

The Church of the Dormition Sure in our days

In 2013 was completed the restoration work. In the temple dismantled the top floor, installed a new altar, and in front of a monument to the saints Fevronia and Peter.
Uspensky temple is a unique monument in neo-Gothic style in Belarus. Its analogues can be found only in Vilnius and Transcarpathia. If you come on vacation in Belarus, you must visit this incredible place.
