The Church of St. John the Baptist in Krevo was one of the first Catholic churches on. It was built in 1387 by order of Jagiello, two years after the conclusion of the krevsk Union (1385). For a long time the building was under the protection of kings, great princes and lords.
In 1440, on the initiative of Casimir Jagiellon in possession of the Church's krew gave farm Loshka Putilovo and in 1468, the Church acquired Koteski and Bakshty. The Church, the feudal lords donated money, land and serfs.
In 1636, the Church was transformed – on the wooden structure appeared tin roof. Inside there were three altars, and the building was decorated with a dome with a cross. Near the temple housed a school, hospital and parsonage.
In 1850 instead of the wooden Church built a beautiful new Church of stone. He worked until 1866, after which it was closed. A little later, the Church was pereosvyaschen the Church of the Holy Trinity.
So the krew became 4 the Church and there is not one Catholic Church. However, people are unable to renounce their faith, and in 1906 he made the restoration of the parish. But the old Church was not given to them, and allocated grain warehouse on Bogdanovskaya street. The construction of the temple was not finished – the first world was destroyed with the work built by the parishioners of the temple. The war touched and Trinity Church – former Church. After ended military action, Krevo was restored from the ruins.
A new Church was built in 1936 year, the place of the old temple. The project architects Arabskogo and Starovskogo combines the features of modern architecture and ancient traditions of architecture. After construction ended, the Church acquired a touch of art Nouveau, Baroque and Renaissance.
In 1944, the Church held its first service. With the advent of Soviet power, when the changed attitude towards religion, the Church was closed, and in 1961 it was used as a hospital. The former Church became the most common building was decorated with beautiful turrets and unfinished second floor. But at the end of the 20th century on a hill in Krevo built a new Church, which still amazes tourists with its magnificence.
