Krevo castle

Krevo castle in Belarus was created in the early 14th century and was the first building entirely made of stone. The fortress is located in the valley between the hills. The main power of the castle were walls whose thickness was about 2.5 meters and the height up to 13 meters. In the corner of the fortress was a Large tower (25 meters high), which was used for defense and housing. Inside the building there was a lake, wooden buildings, stone road, prison.

A bit of history

The owners of the castle was Gedemin, Algirdas, Jogaila, kęstutis, Vytautas. The date of construction is considered the year 1338, when the Prince of Krevo was Algirdas, son of Gediminas'. After the death of the Prince the castle was owned by Agalo. He strangled his mother's uncle keistut encroachment on the dominion of the Grand Duchy. The son of kiejstut, Vytautas managed to escape. In 1448 the castle burst svidrigaylo.

In the early 16th century Krevo castle defended the city from the Moscow troops. But in the 19th century the fortress was almost abandoned, and in 1929 preserved ruins.

Secrets of Krevo castle

Locals say that at night the castle comes alive - you can hear the hammer striking the anvil, the rattling of chains, the drawbridge, the hooves of horses. In the courtyard of the castle walls one can see the shadows of people who go about their business.

According to legend, the castle once lived two princes, in love with a girl. They decided to arrange a duel and one killed the other. Winning told about the feelings of the girl, but she didn't reciprocate. Then the Duke cursed her and ordered to immure in the walls of the fortress. Servants carried out the orders, hastily walled up girl with her dog. Few days people heard moans and screams from the walls, and then silence. Now at night, according to eyewitnesses, in the courtyard of the castle, someone walking a dog.

Were brave men who wanted to follow the beautiful maiden. Then she beckoned the brave to him. If a man has succumbed to its charm, then in the morning he was found with crushed bones.

Even now, locals see the Ghost that is haunting the castle. But now it's no longer a young girl and the old woman with the skeleton of his dog.
