The European Quarter in Taganrog is a unique city landmark, a real architectural gem, recreating the atmosphere of the merchant past. Located on Petrovskaya Street, this shopping and entertainment complex is not only a place for restaurants and cafes, but has also become the object of photo shoots, attracting the attention of both locals and tourists.
In 2021, the European Quarter of Taganrog took the deserved third place in the competition "Treasures of Russia" in the nomination "Public spaces". This recognition underlines the importance and uniqueness of this place, which was able to recreate part of the merchant heritage and bring to the city the atmosphere of the port trade of the time of Peter I.
The idea of creating a European quarter was born with the aim of bringing the cultural and architectural heritage of the era of lively port trade to Taganrog. In the past, foreign consulates flourished in the city, which facilitated the exchange of experience in culture, gastronomy and architecture. The architectural style personified by the European Quarter refers to the Dutch style of the time of Peter the Great, and this has become an integral part of the project.
The place where today's European Quarter is located was a German bakery and confectionery factory a few years ago. At one time, the famous Taganrog confectionery factory, founded in 1933, operated here. Passing into private hands in 1997, the territory was then bought by the former director of the Taganrog port, Viktor Morozov, who invested efforts and funds in the creation of a unique shopping and entertainment complex.
A visit to the European Quarter provides an opportunity to plunge into the atmosphere of ancient Taganrog, feel the spirit of merchants and enjoy the unique architecture that successfully combines historical heritage with modern entertainment.
