Historical heritage of Alicante: Cathedral of St. Nicholas
Embark on an exciting journey into history by visiting the Cathedral of St. Nicholas in Alicante! This majestic cathedral, built between 1616 and 1662 on the site of a destroyed mosque, is an example of the Late Renaissance style with early Baroque elements.

The den was designed by architect Juan de Herrera. Going inside, you will discover the delightful Chapel of the Holy Communion, a magnificent example of the Spanish Baroque. Another gem is the Chapel of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker, where you will find the holy image, the work of Juan de Villanueva.
The spacious interior of the cathedral is completed by a majestic dome 45 meters high. The interior is decorated with marble in various shades, and attention is attracted by the stunning gilded altar, made by Nicholas Borras in 1574.
The cathedral is also a repository of sacred relics, including the relics of Saints Felicita, Roja and Francis Javier. Inside the cathedral you will find an ancient organ from the 16th century, one of the oldest in Spain, which is currently under renovation.
