Zanzibar is the most beautiful place on the African coast, which annually attracts a huge number of tourists with its beauty and antiquity – here you will find the most exotic goods in the Zanzibar markets, beautiful beaches with hot sand, and unique African architecture.
Zanzibar itself is located relatively close to Tanzania at a strategically important crossroads, which, in fact, makes the city a gateway to the Indian Ocean, and it performs this function to this day, connecting East Africa and the countries of Southeast Asia.
Since Zanzibar is a former British colony, we will definitely visit the Anglican Cathedral. Remarkably, the church built by the British is the first such church in East Africa. The cathedral itself is located in the historical center of the African city - on Mkunazini Street. What is especially nice – the cathedral is open to visitors and even holds weekly services on Sunday.
Although this architectural structure is located on the territory of Africa, it skillfully combines African proper, as well as Islamic and Gothic architectural styles, which makes it a truly unique structure that is worth a visit to everyone who is in Zanzibar. Nowadays, this Cathedral is the most important local landmark and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
After visiting the Cathedral, we will head to another place – the former slave market. In the nineteenth century, Zanzibar had one of the largest slave markets in all of Africa, where slaves were sold as a commodity and transported to work on plantations of European colonial companies.
Another important attraction that we will visit is the Sultan's Palace, once the richest and most monumental building in the entire city. Now it is a museum, the first floor of which is dedicated to the ruler Khalifa bin Harub, and another one is dedicated to Sayida Salma.
We will also seeForodani Park – a great place to relax, and the Ancient Arab Fort.
