The Whiskey Route, or as it is often called, the Machame Route, is the most popular tourist route for all tourists who want to see Kilimanjaro in all its glory. It will take you through many trails, dense jungle, moorland, from where the road to the Shira Plateau opens. The route then follows the glacial bluffs of the Southern Icefields, where it intersects with the Barafu route closer to the summit.
When you reach Kilimanjaro International Airport, you will be met and escorted by our staff to the Mvuli Hotel B&B, where you will feel comfortable. Later we will answer all your questions, hold a briefing, check the equipment.
Day 1:
On the first day we will leave Moshi, the journey will take us about 45 minutes. We will drive to the very gates of the Kilimanjaro National Park. Here we will have to wait a bit until our group is given all the necessary permissions, since there are a lot of groups who want to conquer Kilimanjaro.
Here you will have the opportunity to admire African landscapes; I will tell you a lot of interesting things about the local flora and fauna, about the structure of African wildlife.
It is worth knowing that in the initial stages of the ascent, the paths we have to follow will be quite dirty and slippery, so you need to be careful. You should definitely use leg warmers and trekking poles here.
You will spend the night at Machame Camp.
Day 2:
After a good sleep and a delicious breakfast, we will have enough strength and determination to start our ascent. We will leave the forest and head up; our group will cross the valley along a rocky ridge.
Further, our path will lie to the west towards the river Gorge. We will follow this road until we reach the Shira campsite. In this area, the temperature will begin to drop.
You will spend the night at Shira Camp.
Day 3:
The third day is the most important for us in terms of acclimatization at high altitudes. From the Shira we will move southeast to the Lava Tower, also known as Shark Tooth, which is an impressive 4,560 meters or 15,250 feet high.
The next destination is the second intersection through which we will get to the Strela glacier.
From there we will descend to the Barranco camp, where we will rest and spend the night.
Day 4:
First we will have breakfast and then we will move to the Karanga valley. This day will show all the strength of our group, we will gather all our will into a fist and overcome this wall.
Overnight stay will be at the Karanga camp.
Day 5:
On this day we will complete the southern route, which will open up many breathtaking, beautiful landscapes, including the top of the mountain. We will arrange a halt, dinner and rest earlier than usual in order to prepare for the further ascent. Overnight at Barafu camp.
Day 6:
This day will without a doubt be the hardest day of our ascent. We will wake up at night, after which we will continue climbing. Here we need to pull ourselves together; all your moral and physical strength will be required.
We will go between the Rebmann and Ratzel glaciers. Our efforts will be rewarded according to merit - and our eyes will open the most beautiful sunrise of our entire trip! We'll rest a bit and then move on.
Further on our way there will be snow everywhere, we will go towards Uhuru Peak. Our congratulations, you have officially conquered Mount Kilimanjaro and the highest point in all of Africa! Here we take pictures, admire the landscapes and share the common joy of the trials we went through together. We will have a rest in the mountains and enjoy beautiful landscapes. Overnight and rest will take place in the Mweka camp.
Day 7:
On the last day of our unforgettable trip, of course, we will have breakfast first, and then spend some more time together; discussing our journey.
Then, with the whole team, we will go down. Here you will be awarded special certificates for climbing the summit of Kilimanjaro.
I will take you to your hotel in Moshi, and it will take about half an hour to get there. All the benefits of civilization are waiting for you in the hotel – a hot shower, holidays and a delicious dinner! You will spend the night at Mvuli B&B before heading home.
