Our route, the Northern Circle route, is one of the longest and most beautiful ways to reach the summit of Kilimanjaro. We'll traverse the quiet northern slopes, which are rarely visited by humans, and the length of the route will help us acclimate comfortably and increase our chances of reaching the summit. This route is recommended for most people. Join us!
We'll meet and start our journey to the highest point in Africa together! I'll take you to Chanya Lodge in Moshi, and then we'll have a meeting to discuss the trip, answer your questions, and give instructions. Overnight at the Lodge.
Day 1:
We begin our ascent at the Londorossi Gate, located at an altitude of 2100 meters. It takes about two hours to get to Londorossi from Moshi by car.
After arriving at the Kilimanjaro National Park, we will complete the registration process and be escorted to the starting point of our route.
On the way, we may see many African animals, such as buffaloes, elephants, and others. Dinner and rest will await us at Mti Mkubwa Camp.
Day 2:
On the second day, we will begin by walking the final section of the path. This will take us through the rainforest, where we will be shaded by the trees.
Afterwards, we will encounter a large expanse of alpine moorland, which will lead us to the Shira Plateau. The journey there is quite long, but we will be taking a calm and unhurried pace.
We will rest when we reach the Shira 1 Camp.
Day 3:
On the 3rd day, we will begin a long trek to the east. Along the way, we will see the impressive Lava Tower or "Shark's Tooth" rock formation, where we will have lunch.
We will then continue northward, reaching the Moir Camp at 4161 meters. This day is crucial for acclimatization, as it marks the first time we climb to such a high altitude.
Later, we will descend to a lower altitude for a more comfortable acclimatization process. Overnight at the Moir Camp.
Day 4:
On the 4th day, we will climb steeply to leave the Moir Valley. We will see some beautiful views of the surroundings at an altitude of 4375 meters.
We will continue climbing and descending along the slopes of Kibo, passing many stunning landscapes and views, including the Kenyan-Tanzanian border.
Finally, we will arrive at the Buffalo Camp at 4033 meters. After lunch, we can rest and enjoy the surroundings.
Day 5:
Our goal for today is to conquer the Buffalo Range, then descend to the Pofu Camp for a hearty lunch.
We will continue eastward, around the northern slopes, and reach the Rongai Cave. By this point, you should be feeling much better as the acclimatization process is mostly complete.
We will arrive at Rongai around noon and overnight at the Camp.
Day 6:
Today it is a steady climb up and over the saddle that lies between Kibo Peak and Mawenzi Peak. We then continue southwest to the School Hut (4800 meters).
Upon arrival at the School Hut, you will be offered an early dinner and then you should take a short nap as you will be woken up before midnight to start your climb.
Day 7:
This is the toughest and most crucial day of our ascent. We begin the climb at midnight, passing between two glaciers before turning northwest towards heavy scree to reach Stella Point, located on the crater's edge.
After a brief rest, we'll witness the breathtaking African sunrise, and if we're fast, we might even catch it from the summit.
Congratulations, you have conquered Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa! We'll celebrate our accomplishment and take plenty of memorable photos before descending to the Millennium Camp.
In the evening, relax and enjoy as this will be our final evening in the mountains. Overnight at Millennium Camp.
Day 8:
We will begin the day with breakfast and a team ceremony before descending to the Mweka Gate to receive climbing certificates. The climate changes dramatically and the trail becomes slippery there.
From the gate, a car will take you back to your hotel in Moshi. Overnight at the B&B at Chanya Lodge. The next day, depart for Kilimanjaro airport to return home.
