Embark on a life-changing adventure as you conquer Africa's highest peak via the Marangu Route in just 6 days. Experience the thrill of climbing this majestic mountain while navigating challenging terrain and unpredictable weather. Push your limits, bond with your team, and create memories that will last a lifetime. Are you ready to conquer Kilimanjaro?
Upon your arrival at the airport, we'll meet and have a brief introduction before settling into your accommodation for the night at Chanya Lodge B&B.
We'll hold an important briefing where our team will provide necessary information about our journey and answer any questions you may have. Marangu Route, commonly known as the Coca-Cola route is more popular because it can be done in fewer days and has permanent sleep huts at the campsites.
Day 1:
From Moshi, a 45-minute drive takes you to the Kilimanjaro National Park through Marangu Village. As we wait for our permits, we can observe the preparations of many crews bustling about for their upcoming journey.
We will enlighten you about the natural flora, fauna and wildlife amidst the beautiful rainforest scenery and winding trails. It's advised to use gaiters and trekking poles due to the muddy and slippery conditions of the trail at lower elevations.
Overnight stay at Mandara Huts.
Day 2:
After a restful night and a satisfying breakfast, we exit the rainforest and trek upwards through heath land, searching for towering lobelias and groundsels.
As we progress, we'll traverse through the open moorlands with shrubs as the predominant vegetation. We'll stop mid-way for a lunch break, with picturesque views of Mawenzi Peak.
By late afternoon, we'll reach the Horombo Huts, situated below the awe-inspiring Kibo Summit viewpoint, as temperatures begin to decrease.
Day 3:
At Horombo, you will have the option to spend a complete day and an additional night. During this period, you can choose to relax at the huts or go for a leisurely walk up to the Mawenzi Camp before returning to Horombo. Taking an extra day at this stage can enhance your acclimatization process and deepen your comprehension of the mountain's weather and elevation.
Following this break, you will proceed to the Kibo Huts on day four and commence your midnight ascent to the summit.
Day 4:
Following breakfast, we press forward across the diminishing heath land, which gradually transforms into a moonscape upon entering the expansive saddle linking Mawenzi and Kibo.
During our lunch break and later on, as we traverse this surprisingly vast saddle, you'll have the opportunity to survey the ascent to Kibo Peak, which you'll embark on in just a few hours. Overnight stay at Kibo Huts.
Day 5:
Excitement builds with an early start between midnight and 2 a.m. for the mentally and physically challenging trek to the summit.
We ascend in a switchback formation through scree and snow towards Gillmans Point on the crater rim, rewarded with a magnificent sunrise. From here, it's a 1-hour ascent to Uhuru Peak, encountering snow all the way.
Congrats, you've reached the highest point in Africa! After celebrating and taking photos, we descend steeply to Horombo Huts, stopping for lunch. Enjoy a well-deserved rest at Horombo Huts before departing the mountain.
Day 6:
After breakfast, we will hold a ceremony before saying goodbye. We will descend and stop at Mandara Huts for lunch. Remember to tip the crew. At Marangu Gate, receive your summit certificates.
A vehicle will take you back to your hotel in Moshi (about 45 minutes) for a hot shower, dinner, and celebrations!
