Join us on a 6-day trek along the Machame Route to the top of Mount Kilimanjaro! Experience the thrill of climbing the highest peak in Africa, while immersing yourself in the breathtaking landscapes of Tanzania. This trek will test your limits, but with our experienced guides and a supportive team, you'll conquer the mountain and create memories that will last a lifetime. Are you up for the challenge?
Upon arrival in Tanzania, we will meet you at the airport, and then check into the comfortable Chanya Lodge B&B hotel, where you will have a well-deserved rest.
A little later we will also hold a briefing, where I will answer your questions, outline the route and the main points of our ascent. If necessary, we also organize the rental of equipment that you may need on the road.
Day 1:
The first day of the trek begins with a car ride from Moshi. Within an hour, we'll arrive at the gates of Kilimanjaro National Park. We'll stop here for a while to obtain the necessary permits to climb the mountain.
This is the first place where you will witness the stunning African landscape, including tropical forests and small paths that wind through the trees. The area is home to various representatives of African fauna.
During the initial stage of the ascent, the trail will be muddy and slippery, so it's advisable to use trekking poles. Overnight at a camp.
Day 2:
After waking up and getting ready, we will have a hearty breakfast before leaving the rainforest area. Our journey continues along a steep rocky ridge, which leads us through a local valley.
We then head west, passing through a river gorge before reaching the Shira Camp.
Day 3:
Even though we won't be gaining much altitude on the 3rd day of our trek, it is still a crucial day for acclimatization. We'll head east from the Shira Plateau and ascend the ridge until we reach the stunning Lava Tower, also known as ''Shark Tooth'', which stands at an altitude of over 4,500 meters.
From there, we'll begin our descent towards the Barranco campsite, where we will spend the night.
Day 4:
After a hearty breakfast, we'll make our way along the Barranco Wall towards the Karanga Valley, where we'll cross the junction that connects to the Mweka Route. Despite any fatigue or challenges we may encounter along the way, our team's mutual support and fortitude will ensure that we reach the African Peak.
Our destination for the day is the Barafu Camp, which marks the end of the main section of the "South Highway" and provides spectacular views of the mountain peak from various angles. We'll have an early dinner and go to bed early to rest before the night climb. Overnight stay at Barafu Camp.
Day 5:
This is probably the most difficult and responsible day of our entire ascent. We will start climbing around midnight, moving to Stella Point, located on the edge of the crater.
We will have a short rest here, accompanied by the most beautiful sunrise on the African continent. If we're fast enough, we may even catch the sunrise on the summit. Very soon we will conquer the highest point in Africa – Uhuru Peak! We will take lots of memorable pictures.
Next, our group will make a long descent to the Mweka Camp, with a short lunch stop at Barafu Camp.
Day 6:
We'll begin the final day of our trek with a hearty breakfast and a team ceremony before parting ways. Our descent will take us to the Mweka Gate, where each member of our team will receive a special climbing certificate.
A car will be waiting to take us back to your hotel in Moshi, which should take around half an hour. You'll be able to enjoy the comforts of civilization, including celebrations and hot showers, during your overnight stay at the B&B at Chanya Lodge.
