Upon arrival at Bale Mountain National Park, meet your guide and drive to the park headquarters. Afterward, our hike will take us through the park headquarters, where we'll have the chance to spot and see endemic and endangered mammals such as the mountain nyala, Ethiopian bushbuck, common warthogs, reedbuck, grey duiker, and baboon. We will also observe Ethiopian endemic birds such as the Abyssinian catbird, white-backed black tit, wattled ibis, and black-headed siskin, all of which can be found in the juniper woodlands of Bale Mountain HQ. Overnight: Dinsho Campsite (3,100 meters above sea level).
In the morning, after breakfast, we begin our trek to Sodota, which is about 18 km long. The trek takes us through the spectacular scenery of the Web Valley towards the Finch Habera waterfall, where the Web and Wolla rivers meet. In this area, we have our first chance to spot the Ethiopian wolf, as well as raptors and rock hyrax. We will also see endemic birds such as the blue-winged goose. This experience will surely leave you excited and in awe of the wilderness of the Bale Mountains. Upon arrival at the campsite, you will have a coffee or tea break. Overnight: Sodota Campsite (3,500 meters above sea level).
Trek to Wassama through a beautiful landscape with stunning views. Pass through the Mararo Valley, where lammergeyers and Verreaux's eagles nest. There will also be a chance to see the Ethiopian wolf and numerous bird species. The trek lasts around 6-7 hours. Overnight: Wassama Campsite (4,000 meters above sea level).
This next section of wilderness makes it easy to see how the Bale Mountain massif was formed through a super volcano long in the past. The Ice Age and glacial activity have also sculpted the mountain significantly. The walk between Wassama and Rafu highlights the volcanic influence, with incredible rock formations of basalt pipes and granite boulders littering the high country, making walking through here an absolutely stunning experience. The trek lasts 5-6 hours. Overnight: Rafu Campsite.
In the morning, after breakfast, we leave the beautiful Rafu and head to the Senetti Plateau. Falcons, raptors, and possibly the Ethiopian wolf will be visible. We pass through the most beautiful Afro-alpine moorland, with stunning wild alpine scenery and lakes on the plateau. Here on the plateau, we will meet the vehicle and continue driving to the nearby town of Robe or Goba to continue to the next destination. We will drive back to Addis Ababa, arriving in the late afternoon. Depending on the time, we will take you to one of the traditional restaurants, then transfer you to the airport for your flight back home, marking the end of the tour.
