Day 1: Mekele and Journey to Afar, Exploring the Danakil Depression
On the 1st day of our tour, we depart from Mekele and embark on a scenic drive of 260 km via Berhale, ultimately reaching Afar region, situated in the heart of the desert and a mere 25 km away from Dallol Volcano.
During our journey, we pause for lunch and make stops at various locations that offer breathtaking views and allow you to witness the presence of camel caravans.
Upon arriving in Afar region, we continue our expedition to Lake Asale, where we can witness the awe-inspiring sight of the sunset reflecting on the water.
For our first night, we have the option of sleeping on local afar-beds beneath the open sky, under the enchanting starry night, or in cozy wooden cottages (your choice).
Day 2: Erta Ale Volcano
On the 2nd day, we set out for a hike to the Erta Ale Volcanic hills, which stand 613 meters above sea level.
At nightfall, we establish our camp near the eruption site, right on the crater rim overlooking the active lava lake.
Day 3: Red Mountain Lake
After breakfast we will proceed with our journey towards big local village where you will get to know locals and their traditions. We will also see Red Mountain Lake where we will take a breath of fresh air, sipping wine or beer during the sunset.

Day 4: Journey to Ragad, Lake Afrera and return to Mekele
On the final day of our tour, we begin the morning with a drive to Ragad Volcano Crater, tradtionalsal mining. Here, we can witness the process of extracting salt from the ground, shaping it into rectangular pieces, and loading it onto camels.
Afterwards, we descend to the camp situated at the base of the volcano and then drive to Lake Afrera and bathe in the nearby natural hot springs.
Following lunch, we embark on the journey back to Mekele, concluding our remarkable adventure in the Danakil Depression.
Included: transfer during the tour (4WD land for 4 clients), all needed entrance fees and licenses, accommodation and all meals during the tour, tour guide, experienced cook.
