Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro Airport, I'll meet you and escort you to Chanya Lodge for check-in. We'll then have a briefing, equipment check, and rental if it is needed.
The Lemosho route offers breathtaking views and starts from the western side of the mountain of Kilimanjaro. Along the way, you'll see amazing African wildlife. This route allows for better acclimatization, increasing the chances of a successful ascent.
Day 1:
We leave Moshi, and the journey to our destination will take just under an hour. Along the way, we will pass through small villages until we reach the Kilimanjaro National Park. Once there, we may have to wait for our group to receive climbing permission, as there will likely be many aspiring climbers.
During the journey through the rainforest, I will provide you with information about the local flora, fauna, rare animals, and fascinating wildlife. Overnight at the Mti Mkubwa Camp.
Day 2:
Following a restful night's sleep and a satisfying breakfast, we venture out of the rainforest and proceed along an upward path.
As we bid farewell to the forest, the trail steadily ascends, offering expansive vistas until we reach the edge ofthe Shira Plateau. At this point, temperatures start to decline. We will overnight at the Shira Camp.
Day 3:
While the elevation at the end of the day is similar to the starting point, this day holds significant importance for acclimatization. We proceed from the Shira Plateau, heading east along a ridge.
Along the way, we pass by the junction leading to Kibo Peak before continuing in a southeast direction towards the Lava Tower, known as the "Shark's Tooth".
After the tower, we reach a second junction, which guides us towards the Arrow Glacier. We then descend further to reach our overnight destination at Barranco Camp.
Day 4:
Following breakfast, we embark on an exciting ascent up the challenging Barranco Wall, scaling a steep ridge. The trail leads us to the Karanga Valley and the junction where it intersects with the Mweka Trail.
This particular day showcases the remarkable power, agility, and strength of our crew as they navigate the wall with apparent ease. We spend the night at Karanga Camp, taking in the memorable experiences of the day.
Day 5:
We press onward towards Barafu Camp, marking the completion of the South Circuit. This trail presents a plethora of awe-inspiring views of the summit, showcasing its majestic beauty from various perspectives.
After an early dinner and some rest, we make final preparations for the upcoming summit night. We spend the evening at Barafu Camp, gathering our strength for the summit push.
Day 6:
Excitement builds as we start the challenging summit push between midnight and 2 a.m. We traverse the Rebmann andRatzel glaciers, aiming for the sense of accomplishment that lies ahead.
Climbing in a northwesterly direction, we reach Stella Point on the crater rim, greeted by a magnificent sunrise.
From there, it's a one-hour ascent to Uhuru Peak, encountering snow along the way. Congratulations on reaching the highest point in Africa!
After capturing memories and celebrating, we descend steeply to Mweka Camp, with a lunch break at Barafu.
Gaiters and trekking poles are recommended for the tricky terrain. Rest well at Mweka Camp, savoring your achievement.
Day 7:
Following breakfast and a meaningful ceremony of gratitude and team unity with your crew, it's time to bid farewell. We proceed with the descent towards the Mweka Gate, where you will receive your summit certificates.
The weather becomes noticeably warmer, and the terrain turns wet, muddy, and steep. We highly recommend using gaiters and trekking poles for this section.
At the gate, a vehicle will be waiting to transport you to your hotel in Moshi, approximately a 30-minute drive.
Finally, relish a well-deserved hot shower, indulge in a delicious dinner, and celebrate this long-awaited achievement!
